María José Moreno

María José Moreno is a Colombian writer-director and production designer with an international career spanning Colombia, Germany, Spain and Switzerland. She holds an MA in Visual and Fine Arts from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá and an MA in Production Design for Film from Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf in Potsdam.

Over the past decade, she has worked as a production designer across film, television, commercials and music videos. Her visual practice is rooted in fine arts, painting and spatial storytelling, with a particular interest in how environments shape narrative and character.

She is currently developing Violencia as writer-director, a political thriller set during a miners’ strike in Bajo Cauca, one of Colombia’s major gold-mining regions. The project has been selected for LabGuion Colombia 2025, and has received recognition from international screenplay labs and competitions.

Her work moves between cinema, visual art and narrative research, exploring the relationship between territory, violence and memory.
