María José Moreno
María José Moreno is a Colombian screenwriter, writer-director and production designer with an international background across Colombia, Germany, Spain and Switzerland. She holds a MA in Visual and Fine Arts from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, and an MA in Production Design for Film from Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf in Potsdam.
Over the past decade, she has worked across film, television, commercials and music videos in a range of roles within the art department, including production designer, art director, set decorator, prop master and concept artist. Her visual practice is deeply shaped by her background in fine arts, painting and spatial storytelling.
She is currently focused on screenwriting and on developing her debut feature film, Violencia, a political thriller set in the Colombian gold mining region of Bajo Cauca. The project was part of Lab Guion Colombia 2025, was preselected for the Sundance Development Track, and has also been recognized by other international screenplay labs and competitions.
Her work moves between cinema, visual art and narrative research, with a particular interest in the relationship between territory, violence and memory.
